Post-Doc Opportunities

Rosetta’s postdoctoral program provides the opportunity to work with internationally recognized scientists in a cutting-edge industry environment and continues Rosetta's tradition of carrying out innovative genomics research that improves human health. The program aims to facilitate the transition of fellows to independent scientific investigators in a purposeful, resource-rich, rigorous and collaborative research setting.  Postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to publish results in prestigious journals and to present their work at internal and external seminars.

Opportunities

Postdoctoral Fellow in Parallel Computing for Computational Biology

Position Description:

The postdoctoral computational scientist is responsible for developing algorithms necessary for utilization of massively parallel supercomputers in systems biology. Research opportunities: 1) Collaborate with statistical genetics and biological networks research groups to find efficient algorithmic solutions to mathematical problems in these areas. 2) Investigate programming languages and libraries for multi-core multi-node systems. 3) Contribute to publications and participate in scientific societies and conferences in areas relevant to computational challenges in Genetics.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, or related scientific discipline. Experience with numerical methods, parallel algorithms, software development for HPC systems, MPI is required. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communications skills, organizational skills, and strong personal motivation are necessary as well as the ability to work in a dynamic team environment. Experience in mathematical modeling, computational biology, statistics and machine learning is a plus.

To apply:

Please send a detailed CV and a short statement of research interests and career goals to Eugene_chudin@merck.com, with reference to this opportunity.

Postdoctoral Position in Network/Systems Biology

Position Description:

One postdoctoral position is available to work with the Pathway group on projects that are expected to systematically study complex human diseases through the integration of genetics, genomics, gene expression, clinical end-points, protein-protein interaction, literature data, and etc. The goal of the research is to identify causal relationships between gene-gene or gene-clinical traits and represent them in networks or probabilistic graphic models. Such causal networks will be used to elucidate disease or drug mechanism, to aid target discovery and target prioritization. The person in this position will be responsible for developing novel methods for integrating diverse data sources, comparing different networks and identifying key drivers for diseases.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have, or expect to acquire soon, a PhD in a relevant subject area, such as bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, computer science and electronic engineering.  Experience of analyzing large data sets is a plus.

Postdoctoral appointment is for two years, and candidate should have a strong background in modern computational methods, as well as programming skills in Matlab, R, C, C++ or a similar language.

Please send a detailed CV and a short statement of research interests and career goals to bin_zhang@merck.com, with reference to this opportunity.

2 Postdoctoral Positions in Statistical Genetics

Position Description:

Incumbents will work with the Statistical Genetics group on projects that are expected to revolutionize complex trait genetics through the integration of genotypic, genealogy, gene expression and clinical data. The postdoctoral positions will study data from several whole genome association studies, including large-scale genetics of gene expression data sets.  The positions are with a multidisciplinary team with great strengths and deep knowledge in statistics, genetics, networks analysis and systems biology where efforts of the group focus on the identification of disease subtypes, of causal genes for each disease subtype, and of disease-specific targets.  Researchers will help develop and implement analytic methods for analyzing and integrating genome-wide genetic variation within in an integrative systems-biology framework.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have, or expect to acquire soon, a PhD in a relevant subject area, such as statistics, quantitative genetics or genetic epidemiology.   We also encourage applications from candidates with more general statistical training, and who are interested in applying their skills to large scale genetics problems.  Previous experience with large scale genetic association studies is desirable but not essential and publication of methods and scientific results as they relate to the elucidation of complex diseases will be required.

Postdoctoral appointments are for two years, and candidates should have a strong background in modern statistical methods, as well as programming skills in R, C, C++ or a similar language.
