S.J. Rupert Vessey, MRCP DPhil

Vice President, Molecular Profiling, Merck Research Laboratories
Site-Head, Rosetta Inpharmatics/Merck Research Laboratories - Seattle

Dr Vessey trained in clinical medicine (MD) and molecular immunology (PhD) at Oxford University, UK. He has worked in a variety of roles in the Pharmaceutical Industry ranging from drug target discovery, through early development to late phase clinical development. His experience spans a range of therapeutic areas including respiratory, infectious diseases, vaccines and endocrinology. He joined Rosetta as site head and head of Merck's Molecular Profiling department in June 2007.


Douglas E. Bassett, Jr., Ph.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Bassett assumed responsibility for the company’s Informatics organization in 2004, and the company's Gene Expression Laboratory and Guided Solutions operations in 2007. He joined Rosetta in 1997 with responsibility for the company's Computational Biology team and assumed management of Rosetta Biosoftware when the independent business unit was formed in 2001. Prior to joining Rosetta, Dr. Bassett was an intramural research fellow at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he developed bioinformatics software solutions and conducted numerous research projects in the field of computational biology. Dr. Bassett holds a Ph.D. in human genetics from Johns Hopkins University, an executive M.B.A. degree from the University of Washington, and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Washington.

 


Eric Schadt, Ph.D.

Executive Scientific Director, Genetics

Dr. Schadt joined Rosetta as Informatics Analysis Research Leader in November 1999. He founded Rosetta’s Research Genetics department, whose primary mission is elucidating common human diseases using novel integrative genomics approaches based on genetic and molecular profiling data, and has helped define a new field in statistical genetics – the genetics of gene expression.   Prior to joining Rosetta, Dr. Schadt was a Senior Research Scientist at Roche Bioscience.  He received his B.A. in applied mathematics and computer science from California Polytechnic State University, his M.A. in pure mathematics from UCLA, and his Ph.D. in bio-mathematics from UCLA.
